Grown Up Bonnet

Grown-ups don’t typically wear bonnets, but I was looking for a hat that I could wear with a ponytail or a bun and that would still cover my whole head. Thus the Grown Up Bonnet was born.

The brim pattern, “Biba Trellis” from The Harmony Guides Knit and Purl: 250 Stitches to Knit, (Interweave Press, 2007), has a geometric, modern feel, which keeps the brim from looking too ruffly. The ties are long enough to fasten the bonnet firmly under the chin under the harshest conditions, but won’t get tangled up if you decide to leave them untied.

Yarn: Cascade Lana D’Oro (50% alpaca, 50% wool; 220 yd [201 m]/100g): 1 skein color #1030 (natural).

Needles: US Size 5 (3.75mm), 24″ circular

Gauge: 21.5 sts and 30 rows in St st = 4″ (10cm) before washing; 24 sts and 27 rows after washing.
