Vacation is coming…

I’ve started stalking car rental deals and fretting over schedules, which can only mean one thing: vacation time! Specifically, vacation with my whole family, Mike’s parents, and some of their friends at Disney World. It’s a little while away at this point, but not so far that I can’t start working my planning mojo on the trip.

The big deals for this trip are the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, and Mickey’s Not-S0-Scary Halloween Party. What’s stressing me a little bit out is that at this stage of the game, I think there could be as many as sixteen adults to wrangle at Food & Wine. Last year, when there were six of us, we worked out a great system for sharing and tasting all the delicious foods there were to be had where we each carried our own set of utensils, kinda bought one of everything, and then just dug in and split it among us. Sixteen is a little trickier. A lot trickier. I have this image in my head of an unmanageably amorphous group of people to corral from one place to the next, and I don’t think that’s going to make everyone happy. So I’m thinking about coming up with another couple options for handling this scenario — setting up randomized or thematically-based (i.e. the Beer group) teams to do a food scavenger hunt kind of a thing; talking to some of the key players about more subtly breaking off into natural groupings; allowing folks to self-select into a tame group, an adventuresome group, and an extreme “I’ll-try-anything!” group; or grouping by pace (I know what I want and I’m going to go get it vs. I’m taking it as it comes). We’ll have to see.

Happy Birthday to me!

My wonderful husband came up with the best birthday present for me — a collection of nine gift certificates to local restaurants. Some are favorite places we go to frequently; others are places we’ve only tried once and have said we should try again. He even wrote little messages on each envelope that pertained to that restaurant. Fun!

Such good intentions.

I have ‘em, those good intentions. And, being what they are, they lead me almost to the middle of September with nary a post. I’d better pick up the pace!

With that, the new Knitty was released today, and they have the most gorgeous sock pattern:
