I am knitting Debbie Bliss (special Knits) hooded baby sweater and am having a terrible time. I have ripped out the hood twice so far...I am going crazy.......Everyone I see on line looks beautiful and I am a pretty good knitter. Not sure what I am doing wrong but it looks like my hood is coming out upside down each time...Your pictures are helping me though. I will try again......If you have any other tips please feel free to email me.Thanks........

Hi there,

Thanks very much for this page. I came across it as I was going to start knitting the hooded kaftan. I'm not a very experienced knitter yet and was just wondering if you thought this pattern would still be ok for me to try (this is my first baby knit, after 1 adult sweater, many hats and scarves), or if it may not be worth the heartache?

Thanks,
Mindy

You can easily create many extra stitches for the back of the big hood just by knitting into the front and back of each neck stitch. I don't care who the designer is or what their zen is, seams add bulk and I always leave the stitches live and then graft or 3-needle them off.

Zippers into hand knit goods are not too bad once you learn the sneaky trick. Install the zipper on grosgrain or regular ribbon (use a stablizer for soft ribbon) FIRST. Measure carefully so your length is good, but don't go bananas trying to sew a zipper onto stretchy runaway knit stitches. Sew the zipper onto the ribbon, then whipstitch the ribbon down both sides with thread or embroidery floss.
Have fun.
